I have a question concerning trailer tow mirrors. I have a 2002 Superduty with the power trailer tow mirrors on it and I would like to retrofit it with the new 2004 Superduty tow mirrors which have the directional feature as well as the heat feature.First does anyone know if they will just bolt right on to the 2002 without modification? Also, does anyone know what I'll have to do or get to enable the heat and directional features. By any chance will the wiring harness have the proper plugs in the door or is there another way to wire them in?
I read your article on changing out the mirrors and it was a great help. However, I'm not understanding how the heated mirrors will operate. It seems to me that the heated mirrors will work whenever you turn on the key, unless I'm just not getting it. I would think that you would need a timed sort of switching device.
The heat for the mirros does stay on all the time, even from the factory. I plan on doing this whole upgrade to my truck as soon as I get the parts in. But, I'm like you and I think I'm going to put the heater feed on a switch (maybe with a timer) .
Hey Thanks for getting back to me. It'd kind of odd that Ford has those mirrors heating up all the time. Seems to me that the heating elements will burn out a lot quicker that way, but I guess they know what they're doing. Thanks again for the help.
