Okay I my just be crazy here but I just inhereted a 76 F250 2wd, and I am thinking of making her into a Prerunner or something like it. I was wondering if any one has thought, attemted or done this before. if this is just crazy talk then just let me know. Thanks for the feedback.
well is it a long bed? engine, tranny? what is it and how much you got? i thought about it when starting my truck rebuild but then desided against it because of the abuse issue. i think it would be cool, but another thing to consider is are you going to be able to use it much in that way or is it just for looks? i also think a lighter f150 would be better, but i don't know all that much about it because i changed my mind.
The truck in my sig has a 3 inch custom front lift (soon to be 6 in.) and a 4 inch lift in the rear, and 33x1250 tires, and so on... it is built like a 4x4 without the front axle and it wheels great in the mud, and on all but the most extreme trails in my area. I didn't spring for the bed or fender mod crap, mostly because with a moderate lift and good suspention, our trucks don't need it to run a good set of tires. Now, what kind of terrain are you takling about traversing? That is the biggest consideration in my opinion as to how you build your truck.
also, make it light! thats what those fenders and bed mads are for, fiberglass is lighter. heavy trucks break stuff, truck my on this one, my truck is going on a diet.
The F-100/F-150 shortbed is best suited to be prerunnered. They are lighter but strong enough. Autofab has a great kit for them, but they are not the cheapest! The 250 is really just to heavy. The extra weight would cause it to sink in the sand out here! Not to say it couldnt be done, there is a guy aroud here with a mid 90's f250 fully caged with a built 460, real nice!
