My '88 Bronco II V-6, standard will randomly just quit while I'm driving along. There is NO associated sputtering or poor performance. It's just as though you shut off the key. If I try to re-start immediatly, it won't. If I wait 3-4 minutes, it'll start and run perfectly. This may happen once a day for 2 days in a row, and then not happen for 10 days. It's happen twice in one day only once. This started happening about 4 months ago, and has happened so little that I have not really been inconvienced by it. Any of you guys have a guess?? Thank you.
I kind of had a similiar problem with mine recently and it turned out to be a bad coil wire. Get yourself a old plug wire you know is good and next time it does it take your coil wire off and try the other one. This will at least let you know if your problem is electrical. This might not be your problem but will get you turned in the right direction. Good luck.
Crazy - I'll try the coil wire. Hope it's that simple. Thanks
Mr. Shorty - I've never tested it when it's stalled. It happens so rarely, and like I said it starts up fine within 3-4 minutes, so I just wait it out. One of my guesses was that it 's for some reason all of a sudden losing fuel. pressure. I did have the fuel filter replaced, but it still does it. Thanks
I had mine die going down the road b4. No warning no nothing. Push in the clutch and start it back up. Keep on going. Chased it for weeks when I found a grounding strap on the pass side exhaust y-pipe had broken off. Re-grounded it and all was good. Also check the one on the back of the intake manifold. Good luck.
But I'd also agree on checking for loose wires around the coil
