High idle speed

High idle speed

I have been tinkering and have my engine running
great!
Except that I can't get the idle speed down.
1300 and won't go any lower.
What should I check?

fast idle

I have 302/2 barrel; but had same problem. Other than vacuum leaks that can raise rpm. Check choke operation; your fast idle screw may still be up on the fast idle cam after warmup. This will prevent the throttle plates from closing and allowing adjustment with the regular idle screw. When choke flap is open and engine warm, the fast idle cam should be out of the way. On the 2 barrel there is a hex screw on the linkage behind the choke housing that permits this adjustment.

I'd look for vacuum leaks. I found a half dozen on my 85. After fixing them, it actually idles half decent.

There is some kind of decelleration damper motor that I took off and with that out of the way I can set the idle.
Now I have to figure out how to tell it that thing is working.
