94 transmision A4LD

I hope someone can help. I want to change my 1994 ranger automatic transmission with a 1997 ranger transmission: I know that there is a major difference in how the two transmissions work but is there a way to accomplish this? Maybe some conversion company makes a wiring harness and computer that will connect the 1994 engine with the 1997 transmission. I have a 3.0 engine , two wheel drive. Will appreciate any input.

The A4LD in your '94 is governor controlled for the first three gears then has a solenoid that actuates 4th and the converter clutch. The 5R55E/4R55E from the '97 is all electronic and requires a PCM/TCM computer to control it. I doubt such a conversion could be accomplished at anything approaching reasonable cost. The PCM/TCM for the later model transmission is most likely not going to work with the earlier model engine from which it must monitor a number of sensors.

I guess the real question is why you want to do this in the first place. Perhaps the problem can be solved more simply.

Thanks for the information, you confirm my suspicions about the extent of the conversion. I trying to save what little money I have. I will seek the proper transmission and sell the 97 transmission. Thanks for your information
