Bearing Set ??
Last weekend my 4 wheel drive failed in the snow. I had to be pushed out by a GMC and pulled by a Chevy to get out. Then I had to listem to these guys break my B!@#z all weekend. They asked me if the 4 wheel drive option on a ford is a tow strap and a shovel. To be honest I would have said the same to them..hahaha.
Anyway I took it to the dealer on Wed. Told them about the problem. I also got trailer mirrors for Christmas and had them installed. I called the dealer at the end of the day and they said mirrors are on and the 4 wheel drive is "normal".
I went flying down to the dealer to speak to the mechanic. He came out to meet me and I was shocked to see he looked like he just hit puberty. Not that I am an old-timer at 36.
We get in the truck so I can re-create the problem and I ask him if the hubs are locked already. He said..I don't know?? We hop out and lock the hubs. I pull the shift and sure enough we get a god awful grind and thump sound on each and every turn. He looks at me and said...wow it didn't do that before!!! Well it would have dumb a$$ if you locked the hubs!!!! 1 DAY WASTED.
Today after a full day of diagnosis I get a call saying they finally determined the problem to be a bearing set on the right front side. He said its a big job but they hope to have it finished tomorrow (Friday).
What does this dignosis really mean? Whats involved here and is this truck going to be right after they are done.?
Check the sig. Its a brand new truck with 23,000 miles on it and very little use of 4x4. I do not off road intenionally with this. I do however spend much of the winter in NH. Plenty of snow and dirt roads.
Thanks for the info.
Tom
The paperwork did not really detail what was found. All I know is that some service bullitins were taken care of, new hubs installed, and a brand new transfer case was installed.
Sorry for the lack of info.
