Need Help w/Overhead Console Readout

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Sep-02 AT 07:04 PM (EST)] I just purchased a used 1999 Ford F250 Lariat Crew Cab 4x4. This truck is mint, with the exception that the overhead console readouts are way off! Is there a way to reset the display? It displays a temp of -40 degrees at all times. The Miles to Empty indicator is off by about 26 miles, (example, I ran out of fuel when it said it had 26 miles left), leading me to believe that my fuel gauge is off as well because it showed I still had approximately 1/8 of a tank? The MPG indicator is off by about 5 MPG. It indicates that I am averageing 13 MPG, and I have actually been getting 18 MPG with manual calculation. What can I do to fix this problem or reset the readouts? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

With the exception of the temp, I may be able to help a bit.

First off understand that this is a guess. It actually sounds like your readout is way FUBAR and should be checked by a competent mechanic who is familiar with Ford systems.

Your Distance To Empty is figured on your last tank. If you got good mileage on your last tank the DTE is diplayed using those figures. Do not trust it too much. The tripmeter is a much better way actually...

To reset hit both buttons at the same time.

Make sure that you are not displaying metric...although that would show higher mileage and not lower...sorry...just thinking out loud...

It also wouldn't hurt to check out the ambient air temp sender's connection located on the driver's side behind the grill.

BTW, welcome to FTE!

Need Help w/Overhead Console Readout

Hey! Thanks for the help guys! I'm going to try all of that, and if it doesn't help...well, off to the mechanic we go....ho hum... Otherwise, I'm very proud of my "Beastie"! It sounds as though ya'll have some slammin vehicles as well! Any hints on how I can post a pic of my "Beastie" here?
Thanks again for your help! Any further advice is welcomed!
