Cam sensor (check engine light on)

1995 Explorer check engine light came on. Ford dealer says its the cam sensor needs replacing, 600.00. They called back today and said also needs syncronizer part that goes with the cam sensor. Now it will cost 1100.00! Can I do this? Am I being taken?

Sounds very high to me. Let us know what engine size you have, it will be of more help.! Also post it under the correct engine forum if you would like. Good luck!
