Is it normal for an alternator to just up and die suddenly? I got in my truck to go to work last night and saw that the battery light was on, I checked the voltmeter and saw that it was resting on "0" I got out and checked the belt, which I just changed last week, and saw that it was fine.
Everything was working fine yesterday when I drove it to work. It has been very cold around here lately, I've heard that can be hard on alternators.
I'm going to yank it out this weekend and have it tested and get a new one if it needs it, I've just never had one die so suddenly before.
Yup, it sure it possible. I've seen it happen like twice, and I'm just a young guy.
One time we were out camping when it happened, and I had to change an alternator in the parking lot of an Advance Auto parts store. That sucked, but it's important for is young dinks to go through stuff like that so that older guys can't make fun of us so much. It was a Bosch alternator, too.
