Tranny temps
I have the filter mounted between the "out" line from the trans and the radiator, I am still using the radiator cooler and an aux. cooler (which is a B&M 11"x6"x1.5" supposed to be good up to 24K lbs gvw) The filter, and temp sender, is mounted in the engine compartment near the radiator.
Temps are 150-180 degrees highway driving no hills in cold weather. Temps are 180-220 when driving off road in the summer (even just driving on the gravel roads to the fishing holes) One time last summer when towing the boat to the lake temp hit 250 (90+ degree day uphill on a winding road with a 16' fiberglass boat that I don't know how much it weighs)
I have thought all along that it's running too hot, but I am also wondering how much difference it makes having the temp sender where it is instead of in the pan. I know the pan is the most ideal place to have it, but I decided that putting it in a hole I already had was better than drilling another one.
FYI the guage is an Auto-Meter sport comp with electrical sender, I was told that this is a good brand.
My dad runs that same guage in his '01 F250 PSD, it's mounted in his oversize pan, and it rarely reads very much more than 100 degrees unless he's towing.
My tranny fluid still looks brand new and smells fine, the tranny(C6) was built and installed this last summer.
I was thinking of going to a larger pan, and if that doesn't help going to a larger aux. cooler. I just need to know if I really have a problem before I start throwing money at it.
Thanks for any ideas... Brian
