I have an 18' boat 2500-3000lbs. Tongue weight is 75-150. Owners manuel says I can tow 2660. That is for my standard cab, manuel, 3.0 2x4 3.73's. Will towing this every once in a while be horrible for my truck? Or should I do it at all? I feel it will tow fine but getting it out of the water it could be tricky not to roast the transmission. I will be towing it from a frame mounted hitch. Any thoughts?
You've hit the nail right on the head! You can get it there by going easy and the same for getting home. Depending on the angle of the launching ramp, you could meet with problems. One solution could be to change the diff. to a 410 LS.
i have a 99 4X2 ranger with a 4 banger automatic. Im always towing something as long as ya leave your overdrive off and go easy i find the ranger will tow virtually anything.same goes for stick models you can go easy and tow almost anything

I'm hoping you don't mean the part where I said would it be horrible on my truck. LS sounds like a good idea. I'm not sure I can afford (ie convince the wife) to let me spend $500 on a LS and a frame mounted hitch.
