Post Overhead Console

I have a 1999 SD F350 CC with 112K miles. I have trouble reading the overhead console miles to empty, compass direction and temperature due to bad LCD lumination. Does anybody know how I can fix this problem? Do I need to replace the whole unit or is there a way to increase the brightness of the LCD lumination? The lumination for the clock and radio works just fine and I can read those with my sunglasses. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you drive with your lights on? I did that and couldn't see a thing, especially with sunglasses on. Also, is your dimmer turned up all the way? I catch myself wondering why it's not very bright sometimes and I'll check the switch and somehow I will have turned it down. Hope this helps.

No, I do not drive with my lights on during the day. The first thing I checked was the dimmer switch and it was turned on all the way up (to full brightness). It is very hard to read it with or without sunglasses. I am wondering if the LCD ditigal readout is going bad. Plus, I don't have a clue how to take apart if need be. Any suggestions?
