My 1995 Explorer Sport is overheating -- yeasterday it was just fine--I went on line and it said to flush the radiator --I ran the hose like it said but I couldn't find that petcock valve. I crawled underneath the car but everything looks all sealed up. Do I have a sealed radiator and if I do what do I do now---It also said something about purging thecooling system of air. Can someone kind of talk me through it. I'm a single mother and I need my vehicle. Thanking in advance for any help!
If you do not have drain valve you generally can get most of the coolant out by removing the bottom radiator hose from the rad. The drain valve is usually on the right side at the bottom of the rad. Some are hard to see since they may be surrounded by a plastic circle that protects the ****.
I would suspect a bad thermostat since your overheating problem occured overnight.
Purging the system of air is as simple as leaving the cap off and letting the system warm up with the heater on. The coolant level should rise and fall a few times before it stablizes. Once it does top it off and it should be ok.
