I have a 1990 w/302 and it started what sounded like lifter rattle a few days ago. I tried 2 bottles of lifter quieting juice and the noise is still there. Idle's good and rev's up good.
I did a compression test on the cylinders where I thought the noise was coming from. The very back one and drivers side has no (0 psi) compression, the 2nd cylinder has 140 psi. Is a stuck lifter holding my valve open?
It could be a broken valve spring, a blown head gasket, a hole or a break in the piston. I hardly think you have a lifter problem. Lifters collapse and the valve spring would keep the valve closed. You might as well plan on first taking the rocker arm cover off and looking at your valve springs and then you will probably have to pull the cylinder head off.
