Hidden 'Kill" Switch

Has anybody installed a hidden kill switch under the dash, hood, etc.?

I would like to disable my PSD in case some assho decides he wants to rip it off. May not be the best way but it would definitely deter him.

Don't want to deal with the Club or the security gizmos. Just looking for a way to hide a small switch under the dash or hood that I can simply turn off when I want to.

Any ideas? recommendations?

If you don't smoke you can try placing one inside the cigerette lighter plug. No one would ever find it there.

My main concern is would there be a problem breaking into the ignition wire coming off the switch?

Switch rating, etc?

I believe there are multiple ignition wires that you would need to worry about. Have you considered using a relay and cutting out the fuel pump? Or instead of the ignition you could kill the selenoid wire, which is low current.

Yeah, good ideas. I should check into the fuel pump or solenoid cutoffs instead.

My Diablo 54/78 chip has a keyswitch kill accessory that puts the ECM in the sleep mode when enabled. My only problem with that is 1.) Potential faulty connection at the ECM over time, 2.) Lose the key you're PSD is disabled.

I just put a remote starter in mine. It has a mode that disables the wire to the starter solenoid. You could pretty easily wire up a relay in the solenoid wire with a switch mounted anywhere you choose to hide it. The solenoid wire is right below the steering column when you remove the cover that gets you to the fuse box. You may not want to put it right there, as some thieves may be smart enough to open that cover and wire around your relay. But, the wires go into the engine compartment, so you could get to them there. The nice thing about disabling the starter solenoid is that they can't grind your starter forever like they could if you disable the fuel pump. I guess, though, that if they are really stealing it, they won't spend a whole lot of time grinding the starter for fear of drawing attention.

Any idea on what current rating the relay needs to be for the solenoid?

The one I used is a 30A one. The solenoid current isn't that high. Here is a site that shows some interesting ways to do this. The simplest way is just use the first diagram, but where it says to use the alarm (-) output, just put a toggle switch to ground. You don't need the diode either when using a switch (it is there to protect the output of the alarm). Just make sure the relay you buy has both an 87 and an 87A terminals. Many don't. You need the 87A terminal.

Some other option for a remote switch without worrying about a power source: Switch to interupt CPS wire, switch to interupt starter solenoid, switch to interupt signal to IDM, switch to interupt BOO switch (disables brake pedal, can't take it out of park), switch to interupt throttle pedal (will start and move but won't go far just idleing).

I have a friend that found the wire to the starter and spliced in a switch. It was a very small switch he got from Radio Shack that was rated for the juice going through the wire. Apparently it works because he called the other night and said he was broke down. Motor wouldn't turn over. "Kill switch on?" He hung up.

Thanks for the info.

Diablo makes an accessory keyed kill switch for the Delta chip, which I have. I guess it plugs right onto the Delta PC board and you mount the switch wherever you want. Claim it puts the ECU to sleep. I'll see how that works.
