Question 1978 Engine size

My father owned a 1978 Ford Pickup years ago. He passed away in 1988, we sold his truck at that time, but still have a few misc. parts in the garage. We came across some headers we believe were purchased to go on the truck. I need to know what size engine would have been in the truck. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Do you have the VIN number? Otherwise it may have been one of many engines. Probably a 351M or 400 but that is just probably the most common.

Do you know the brand of headers and if there are any numbers stamped on the collector?

Hi Eric, sorry, don't have VIN #, Dad kept indepth records on all his vehicles, but Mom gave all the paper work to the guy who bought the truck. I'm in the process of tracking him down, but that was almost 15 years ago. I don't know the make of headers, the only number I see is R 535. I know the truck was stock, Dad didn't do anything to it before he died.

I have a niece by the name of Jennifer Lee.

It is really hard to tell what headers fit what.

They have the normal cross pattern of a Ford Engine.

I'll look around for the info for you though.

Hi Jennifer,
Welcome to the Forum

I am pretty sure that they are for a 351m or 400.
Definitely not a smallblock (302 or 351W)
Not a 460 either.
Not an FE (360,390)
They fit a 73-79 F100 or F150 with a 351M or 400.
