how can I tell if this high pressure pump is working? What are the symptoms of one not running? If you take gas and ram it open quickly on my brothers Bronco 2 it catches and revs quickly, however mine will fall on its face unless you already have the RPM's fairly high. Could this be a symptom of a high pressure pump not working? Thank You.
Maybe, but I would expect the engine would stumble worse as you increased the RPM's (because it can't keep up with the engines demand at higher RPM/throttle opening). The best way to diagnose a bad fuel pump is with a fuel pressure gauge.
Other ideas involve the EEC-IV system. Have you ran the self-tests, yet?
Thanks for your reply. I have not done the self test yet although I have been reading up on them. Hopefully it wil warm up here (above 20 degrees) so I can check these. I am still not sure exactly how to do the test so I will read up some more on it. Thanks for the help so far.
I would also check the base timing and also make sure its advancing. I have the procedure for pulling the eec-iv codes in the tech info post if you would like some more stuff to read.
Thanks for the help Ken. Its nice to see a sight where the people all try to help each other out. I have been to some that always seem to be bickering among themselves. I am going to try and pull these codes tomorrow so please be patient with my questions, as this will be a first for me. Thank you.
