A travel trailer clipped the rear corner of my van. One of the body shop estimates included removing the side windows to paint the side from rear to the front door. The estimator said if you don't remove the windows and just mask them off the Clearcoat will peel off around the window edge.
Anyone have experience with this? The estimate without removing the windows is MUCH cheaper!
It will eventually peel. sorry to say. if you tape them up that will create a edge for the clear coat to start peeling. kinda like a rock chip, only along the window where theres water and stuff concentrated around.
Some shops wont do the repair if they arent allowed to pull the windows, I wouldnt. or wouldnt offer you a warranty on paint peeling, which if my name iso n the repair i dont want...

Clearing the entire panel is the easiest way to do the job. The problem is, the customer pays the cost.
You can blend clear. It is a simple process but requires extra work on part of the painter. You basicly keep stepping down the strength of the clear until you are nearly shooting straight reducer. You then touch it up with some 2000 grit and buff it clean. The blend disappears.
