problem with 91 tranny replacement
Hi, I bought a 91 F150 with auto transmission. The replacement tranny is not the exact same one as the origianal, but is a Ford. The transmission shifts smoothly through the gears, but always has a slight shudder/hesitation when starting out. A friend who works at a FOrd dealer thinks that the computer is "confused" initially on starting in first, since it is searching for the original transmission configuration. Doesn't sound exactly right to me, as I know folks swap out transmissions and they seem to work fine. Any guesses on what to check? Got a great deal on the truck, everything else is top notch, and I want to get this bug worked out before giving it to my Dad when he retires. Thanks for any help.

Did you check the fluid level? If it is a used tranny it might need a filter service. If you replaced it with a non electronic tranny the computer should have nothing to do with it. Try some tranny additive. Who knows might work.
