93' F-150 Towing - Need Advice
I have a 93' F-150 Std. Cab, Long Box, 5.0L, auto trans, air, 3.08 gear ratio. It did not come with the factory tow package. I got it from my Father. He bought it new and has driven it very little (13k miles) during the past 10 years. It's in perfect mechanical condition, has brand new radial tires and has never been used to haul or tow anything.
I would like to use it to tow a 17 foot aluminum bass boat ( total weight of boat/motor/trailer/fuel etc. is 1900 to 2000 lbs. max.)
I will probably be using the truck to tow the boat about 75-150 miles a week for about 20 weeks per year ( fishing season in Michigan).
Other than a class III hitch and proper wiring is there anything else I should do to prep the truck for towing such as add a trans cooler etc.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Out of thr Ford Towing Guide, your truck is rated to tow 4800lbs with the tow package. The tow package includes front and rear stabilizer bars, hvy duty shocks, wiring harness, and the super cool package which also included the transmisiion oil cooler. You most likely will need the transmission cooler to start and then determine if the suspension parts are of value to your particular towing situation.

You can tow that weight off the bumper. My bumper is rated for 5000 1bs .Wiring is easy, just pick up one of those trailer/light adapter plugs at autozone. Its just a tee that you plug in-line with the wiring harness going to the rear lights, instructions tell all. Super easy to install, no tools required. You may have to do some checking about trailer brakes. I know my F150 can stop that kinda weight no problem without trailer brakes, but for legality purposes, you wanna check anyway.
That kinda weight is nothing for an F150. Get a tranny cooler whether you are towing or not.

Flash - there is a Ford towing guide? I am trying to figure out how much my f150 can tow. It's a 95 extended cab 4x4, short bed, 302, an auto, and 3.55 gears. It has a heavy duty trans cooler, but I don't see any sway bars (I think) or heavy duty shocks. I want to tow my mustang and possibly my dads boat. The car weighs 3500lbs and the boat around 5000lbs. What does the Ford towing guide say my truck can tow? Over in the truck forum they said it can tow 6800lbs, that sounds like too much to me?? Not trying to hijack your thread jiminmich, just have a similar question. Thanks guys!

I don't have the 95 towing guide. My bud owns a Ford dealership and I used to get all the dealer data every year when they closed them out and got new datasheets. It got to be too much to look at. Out of the 93 Guide, your truck would be rated to tow a 6700 lbs trailer with a GCWR of 11,500 lbs. If you have put taller tires than stock, the rating would be less as the effectual gear ratio has changed.
