Can anyone tell me if this is the right stall speed i need for a torque convertor? I have a 302 and c-4 for a 79 ranchero and stock stall speed is 1750-1850. I dont really know what the hp and torque is but heres what it has (edelbrock 600 cfm, RPM intake, Comp Cams 268 K-kit, hooker comp. headers, dual exhaust with an h pipe. i took out a/c and emissions and put in electric fans. Has the 9-inch, but rear end gears will soon be to 3.50 lockers) With that in mind, Comp cams told me to go with 2000-2200 stall speed if i have the 270, and since i have the 268 which is suppose to go with stock, i feel that it needs more. The B&M Torkmaster 2000 for the 2400 is what ive been looking at. I looked at the TCI saturday night special, but summit said for a small block it gives 1600-1800, which wont do me much. If anyone can help me pick out the best torque conertor and stall speed, i will greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

with that cam you won't need a stall. if you go to high over or in the middle of your power range you will be dissapointed. those 3.50 gears is all you need. you are supposed to pick a stall that is a few hundred rpm's away from the starting of powerband.just get a shift kit and put those gears in and you will love your motor. call them back and tell them all about what you have and what you will have in your rear end and they will point you in the right direction
wait i should tell you that you may need more info from more than just me. do you know if this motor is going to lope or have a fairly good idle. the better the idle, the better the throttle response. but anyways you should just need new gears or nothing at all.
