Pushbutton 4WD not working on '94 Explorer
Fairly straighforward question- if the pushbutton 4WD is not working, what are some of the more common causes? Are there fuse issues, or ther easy electronic bugs to check? Vacuum issues?
I hope there are some simple things I can check myself before I have Ford run a hot poker up my butt...

having same issue
Having the exact same problem but mine is a '93 XLT. I can hear a clicking sound where the jack is on the rear drivers side but that it. Ive looked around for fuse's etc but have not came up up with nothing yet uggg.. Ill let you know if I find any good data.

I've heard anything from vacuum issues, to electrical gremlins, to they won't actuate in really cold temps (i.e. when you probably need them most). Refer to my post in "pushbutton 4x4s are king". Sorry I couldn't help more.

There is a relay in a panel above the drivers side rear wheel. If you can hear it click the switch is working. however it does not mean the relay is ok. The relay may not stay pulled in therefor not sending the signal to the DC servo motor which operates the BorgWarner Transfer case. A couple of bolts and the $400 tin can sized motor is in your hand. Remove the motor, dont remove the plug. Hit your switch, see if it rotates? if not your relay is good and motor is bad. You can check this by then pulling the plug. hit the switch look for a voltage w/ a meter. Back up to the relay and look for a voltage also to verify. I dont like to poke holes in wires on outer body. Motor or relay swap is straight foward. There is no vacume in this operation.
