This problem just started recently...As I am driving down the road and then come to a stop, I can see the little red battery light starting to flash randomly and then when I sit for a while at a stop, the light will stay lit red until I press the gas and then it goes away completely...
now it's doing just the opposite, while I am cruising down the highway the light stays red until I slow down then goes away...it's weird
I have a brand new battery with new cables too...the alternator has not been replaced and looks kinda old...is it my alternator going bad or what?
do you notice any difference in brightness of dashlights or headlights? Could be indicating trouble with the voltage regulator. Unfortunately, I believe that the voltage regulator is built into the housing of the alternator so the whole unit has to be replaced if it goes. I had an 88 ranger 2.9 before my present ranger and I had to replace the alternator 2 times because of that voltage regulator.
i didn't notice the headlights going dim or the dash lights going dim...truck runs absolutely fine but the light just comes on out of random and will sometimes stay on...the alternator looks pretty old so i bet it's that...cause i put in a brand new battery and cables a little while ago...
