engine dies

Whenever I put my bronco in reverse and back up I will let off the gas and it dies or gets close. Also at idle the rpm's kind of bounce from around 800 down to 300 back and forth. Then earlier today I stoped put it in park and then it died. What is wierd is it only does this sometimes? It does not seem like it but could it be my fuel filter?

You got idle air inlets on your throttle body that come off of your charcol canister by the battery. Follow the hose off of the canister and it will split in two and each hose goes to a fitting on the throttle body on the back side of the butterfly valves. Those are your idle air inlets, they could be clogged. When you are having an idle problem try dis-connecting those hoses and see if she clears up. If not then the idle air passage in the throttle body could be clogged, then just spray a shot of WD-40 down them and let it soak and see if she clears. A fuel filter is very cheap to replace, it would'nt hurt to replace it.

Good luck
Al

I just did my fuel filter the other day, and it was a nightmare... clamps are easy to remove, but the fuel lines were crazy tight. I had some cheap tool that I got at Kragens, but it was still a tough job (or it could be that I'm just a clutz)
