The steering on my 76 F100 4x4 seems to be very loose. I mentioned this to the previous owner and he wrote,
"The front springs have a lift that makes it higher than the rear. The guy at jack it a custom four wheel drive shop here told me that the springs have caused the caster to be to far neg. which means the front tires are tilted forward from center causing it to steer too quick or seem loose."
Does this seem possible? The truck seems to sit like a 4x4 should.
Any suggestions on what steps I should take as far as the steering. I have just purchased all new polyurethane bushings for the front end. Quess I should install them then have the truck 4 wheel aligned. Sound right?
that sounds possible, all though your truck doesn't look as though it was lifted too high. They make degreed C-bushings to correct your alignment if you lift it, they usually come in 2, 4, or 6 degree increments that I have seen. Make sure to check everything else under the front end, track bar bushings, tie rods, etc. A steering stbilizer can help if the truck is wandering too. Good luck.
