flat tops or not
i have a 71 429 pistons apear to be flat with 2 valve cut outs i was told they are not flat tops if they have cut outs, i was thinking they were what is it also does the cut outs afect the 10.5 comp ratio

I looked at the set I have in the garage, I believe they are the same as the one's you are describing. I'd call them flat tops still. I don't think the valve reliefs are more than 5cc's which would have a minimal affect on your compression ratio.
