85 ford ranger, standard cab, long bed, 4x4, 2.8L V6... The heater in my "cherry" (ha ha ha) truck is either off, off, off, off, or full blast. As well as it's starting to squeel when it feels like it. What parts should I expect to have to replace and are they available at auto zone (or similar)?
Secondly, how about the guts for the two doors... I'm rebuilding and the OE hardware only works from the outside handle to open the door, as well as the internal window mechanism is broken when trying to crank up (window falls forward). How will the parts best be installed in the new door? (remove shell or can it be done with door shell/frame assembled)
Thanks, you rock... and I'm not just saying that because I need help
Sounds like one of the resistance coils has parted from the switch. I think there are 2-3 coils that reduce the voltage to the fan motor. Sometimes you can pull the switch apart and resolder the coil, but usually better to replace it. Also sounds like the fan motor is going bad. Bad brushes, dirty bushings, etc. You could try pulling it apart and cleaning it, but if you can find a used one, that would be much easier. The door stuff is a little toughter. Have several bandaids handy. You will probably scrape the back of your hand a couple of times on the sharp things they put in there to scrape backs of hands. Not much room to work but can be done. Usually when a window falls forward, it has detached from the track that keeps it straight. Some glue or silicone will solve that problem. Just make sure you get it cleaned up first.
