What the heck is it. I know there were 302 Clevelands but this is definetly not a cleveland, because it came out of a US manufactured car, and it doesn't have the large oval ports like a C. Its a 4V intake and it was in a 77 car, but most of the casting numbers begin D5....
Is there anything special about this motor, its going in a project 83 Ranger, but if its super rare, (doubt it) then the ranger won't see it.
You see, I don't deal with these small blocks very much, so I don't really know what I have. The emmisions tag reads "engine family: 302 "C" V4
the tag also says it was built in 1977, after the clevelands were dead, but not before the M heads existed.
This is kinda frustrating to tell you the truth. The only storage place I have for the motor right now is int he back of my truck, I don't have any desire to leave it out there, as the weather is quite foul up here, and I just want to do something with this motor.
I have a 1985 f100 (australian delivered) which has a 302 in it, one day when I was in the ford dealership I asked the mechanic if the 302 was built in australia, he said yes if it is a 302 cleveland it was built in australia, sure enough after more inspection in turned out to be a 302 c I don't know if this will help you or not. They are classed as a 4.9 litre motor and not 5.0 litre. i am still a little confused myself.
Is it possible that I can have a 302 made in 1977? Even if it was australian made, it doesn't have the huge oval ports like my M heads, which are the same as Cleveland heads, it has the tiny 302 ports. Its almost more troble than its worth.
According to Nudgey, then they were definetly made that late, this is cool. I wonder what its worth $-wise. What I really need for the swap is a plain jane 302.
