I live in the South, for about 10.75 months out of the year it's warm/hot, but for a week or so in December and part of January and February it gets chilly. What on earth can I do to make/help my heater work better? Are there hoses I can insulate? I realize there is a good bit of floorspace in the Bronco to heat, so what can I do to help it happen faster short of a bonfire in the back? Any ideas are welcome no matter how farfetched...
check your heater core, a cloged heater core can slow it down.....i replaced mine and i have to put the selector about 2/3 the way hot or i will melt...........also check thermostat
I took a look at your weather today...high of 35! That is a freaking heat wave in MN during this time of the year!
I did some work on my Bronco yesterday (non-heated garage) and the temp was 7 above! I hope someone responds to your post...I could really use it too! brrrrr
Another thing to check is if your fresh/recycled air lever is in the recycle position. If it is check and make sure the door is ok, mine broke and it never closed off the outside air so it never warmed up. I went a whole winter like that and when it got below 10 degrees I froze.
here is another thought, i am going to do it to my bronco; firstcheck all seals around door.........i am going to install carpet that goes up the tailgate (to give a better seal there) thus warm air stays in...........................on the other hand you could also buy a little heater that plugs into cig lighter (prob the easiest way)
Cje07, I guess you're a little colder up north, makes 35 deg seem a little petty.
Jdgreen, not sure if I have a recylce option, it's either heat or ac, and a blend adjustment.
Bronco 86, is there a trick to checking a heater core without having to remove it, not that there might be...
where is this lever located on an 86?
Remote start...would love it, but I don't think you can by-pass the clutch on a manual trans...

Just giving you a little dig about the temps...35 is still cold! Instead of one pair of sweatpants yesterday I had to wear two...and I wore a stocking hat this time!
I like the remote start idea, I saw one the other day that had a temp. sensor and the option to automatically start at a specified temp., that would be redneck pimpin.
I have been through both extreme's! Sounds crazy, but I'll take the cold!! Grew up in Northern Indiana, I spent winters of 88, 89, 90, 91 in Minneapolis. Halloween of 1991, 26 inches of snow and a day later it dropped to 5 above zero! Throw in some great ice fishing and some cold Leinenkugel's....What Cold??
A couple of things to do......1. Give yourself and the Bronc 5 extra minutes to heat up while your inside gulping some coffee. 2. During the warmer fall days, make sure you have flushed cooling system and fresh antifreeze/water mixture in it. At least it will help heater core last a little longer and keep them flushed.
I'm not sure the door is in the same place on an '86. On mine there's an access panel under the trim under the passenger side of the dashboard. I blocked mine with a piece of plywood, I don't normally drive it too much when it's warm so it's not an issue for me to stay cool.
I'm jealous! 65-70....I just checked our weather and its -2 degrees with windchill...bringing the temp to a saultry -11. Cold enough to freeze nipples and other apendages off!
