I recently got my 78 f100 4x4 on the road, and i was driving, and heard some klunking, so i got underneither and took a close look. I need to know the name of the rubber peice that attaches to the rod which keeps the front axle in place. It comes back from the axle, has a rubber peice on each side, and then bolts to a mount, keeps the front end perpendicular to the rest of the truck. There is a ploy peice in there, but appears that one broke off, leaving an inch of room to knock around.
If I read correctly...that would be the C-bushing. For your application using a 6" lift...what is recommended is the 7 degree C-bushings. Also...try and replace both sides while you are at it.
At the axle itself, these are the "C" bushings and come in different angles (2, 4 and 7 deg.) to help alignment. The bushing at the rear of the radius arm are just that, called radius arm bushings. The trac-bar goes from the driver's side frame to the pass. side axle. This also has bushings on both ends that will give some wierd handling and noises if shot. The "C's" are a pain to change, all the rest are fairly straight forward. For the radius arms, just unbolt the bracket from the frame/crossmember after removing the big nut on the end of the arm and it will slide off to get to the inner ones. Would recomend the poly bushings as these last longer, are tighter and resist oil, salt, ect., much better than rubber.
