5.4 starts sometimes
I thank everyone for the info I have used as a non member. Today though, a problem popped up that I haven't seen in the archives.
My '98, E350, 5.4L wouldn't start. It cranked but wouldn't run. I searched the archives and determined that the MAF unit should be cleaned and did that with copius amounts of brake cleaner. The IAC was replaced last month so that shouldn't be a problem.
I tried to start it but no luck. It cranked and cranked but wouldn't run. I left the key in the "run" position and stepped out of the cab to look things over. As my son and I stared helplessly into the engine compartment we heard a "click" like a solenoid or relay tripping. I looked back at the dash and noticed the "Service Engine Soon" light had illuminated. It wasn't on before. I tried to start it again and it fired up immediately.
My family depends on this van so reliability is more important than performance to us. I am left wondering what I need to look at to prevent being stranded next time?
