I drove manuals up until a few years ago. I like a granny low. I like a GOOD automatic too. C6 is solid. Don't underestimate the GM hydro 400 though for towing etc.

I Guess auto is just my preference. You dont have AS good of engine breaking, but if you are good with the brakes you can apply the same force as the engine. The question was for mud anyways. I just like autos for the convienence. If i had a car i would definitely want a stick though. Just not in my truck.

A stick is the only way to go in almost all situations. There is nothing that can beat granny gear in 4 lo. It just idles down hills with no braking requireed thereby not losing traction. In mud this is very significant especially on hills. Sticks also put more power to the ground than any auto could ever do. Enough said.
