Hey yall, was just wondering what a good, preferably resonable price not much money, way is to gain more torque and hp. Its a 90 bronco with a stock 302, ive heard i have 200 hp and 280 lb/ft torque. Is there anything i can do to get about 250 hp, and around 300+ lb/ft torque. Remember im on a low budget. Future mods include 4:10 gears and true dual exhaust. Any help would be nice. 350-400 lb/ft torque would be great
Aftermarket heads or fords GT40P heads would get you there. The GT40P head swap would cost under $800 if you did it yourself. Anything you can do to the exhaust will help. The heads make enough backpressure that I don't see it as a concern. The 4.10 gears will make more of a difference than any small dollar engine mod. Motorhaven might be able to get you a chip to help out. I don't know how much it would help you.
Ok so 250 hp, and 350-400 lb ft torque would be sweet. Any more suggestions. Thats 65 more hp, and 80-130 more tq. That doest sound to hard to do actually. Anything that i can do, and remember im on a budget, to get this.
You can't get that much of a torque boost without a power adder or a stroker kit. 250HP will be a walk in the park though. A better cam and some headers and you have it.
so will 250 hp, and 300 tq move my 90 bronco pretty good, and make it noticably quicker? Also if i get a better cam, what would u suggest without having to replace the pistons or valves or anything else like that. And what kind of headers for the 302 will give me that jump that i need to obtain the hp and tq?
90ebbronco, I would look at coming up with a goal for power then collecting the pieces you want. the efi seems to cost more the build then an old carb engine. I personally would get a cam but call one of the manufacturs or like summit and tell them what you have or are going to get and what you plan on doing. and get some 24 lb hour injectors. As for headers i would get some longtubes but shorties are easy to installl and such. I say you might want to get a big throttle body assembly. To get 250 you might need some gt 40 heads. i think long tube headers, good cam, throttle body get you 45-55 hp. the injectors would not add much performance wise but it wouldn't starve on top end at all. 19lb injectors are good enough for 250 horsepower but its up to you. The gt 40 heads are worth about 40 hp if you were to get them and they would work great with an aftermarket cam. that would produce up to 265 or so horsepower maybe better. as for feeling the power u would be quick for a truck. i am not sure what quarter mile times but i figure somewhere in the 15s or low 16s. the biigest differce in power is from a 100 hp vehicles to a 200 hp vehicle. what i'm saying is a 100 hp might go 22s and 200 will go 15s or low 16s for a car but 300hp is in the 13s. the trucks are obviously slower than cars though.
