89 f250 4x4 460fi.what can i remove off of this engine(emission wise) and have it still run ok?does anyone know what the difference is between the headers for an 87 460 engine and the 89 460 engine?
If you dont need to emission test it, take all the catylitic converter stuff off, and have only headers, mufflers, exhaust. Thats my input. I dont think there is much of a difference in headers for 87-89, thats the same body style so the clearance should be ok.
Hey Dean,
How do you like that RV cam? Is it the perfect match for 4:10's or would 3.55's work just as well, do you think? In the fuel injected models, Did they use the straight up timing sets from stock?..
Tony
Tony,
I use my F250 strictly for towing and the mild RV cam does help. As far as gearing goes it really depends on how heavy a trailer you are towing... and how fast you want to ascend steep grades.
Most of my towing occurs in the mountains and my load averages between 8,000-9,000 lbs. For that I found the 4.10's to be a better gear than 3:55's. If most of your towing/driving is flat freeway then 3:55's would be the way to go.
You do need to get the older timing gear sets to run straight up timing in the EFI models...besides my RV cam already had 4 degrees advance ground in to boost low-end torque.
