i put 6x8's in my 95 and i wish i wouldnt have. i wasnt paying attention, and when i bolted them in, u could see a dent outside of the cab. like from the magnet hitting or sumthin. really pissed me off. next time im going 5x7 but its already too late...the damage was done. maybe it was just my pickup, but what happened happened.
Some speakers are made deeper than others....larger magnet, deeper cone, etc., which is what dented RICE H8R's truck. Most will fit right in, though...I have a '99 f150 and replaced the door speakers with the walmart 5x7/6x8 pioneers. they sound great. I replaced the rears with 6x9 pioneers in separate boxes....i didn't feel like diving into the interior panels too much....too many plastic fasteners to break...
thats funny on my reg. cab the outside of the cab cant be seen through the speaker opening, theres a angled piece of sheet metal there...
anyway, im running the newest pioneer 3 ways from wal-mart (6x8s) but i have them powered by an amp. they sound terrific. u have a factory HU? if so they'll have a better sound quality but wont be what u expect...even off an aftermarket HU, they arent being powered the thier potential and wont be to peak sound.
I'll agree with optikal, the 6x8 pioneers from wal-mart sound really good for the money. They actually surprise me up next to "better name brands". I recently bought a set of 6x9 of the alpine type s's and they sound really good too, although I have heard some people say they sounded like trash, but I'll put mine next to any infinity, polk, or rockford you throw my way. I've had all, and with my setup, for some reason the alpines just sound better!

spend a few more bucks and get what? Rockford, infinity (too crisp), polk, clarion (don't get me started on them), eclipse??? No thank you, I've had my own experiences with all those.
Or do you mean like MB Quart, Focal, Image Dynamics....etc etc?
I dont think that drag79stang was looking to spend a fortune on a stereo, just wanted something to sound decent for the money, that's why he just went to wal-mart for speakers instead of elsewhere. People can sit on here all day long and argue over what speakers are better, but theres other factors, such as price and type of music that people have to deal with. So all I'm getting at is even the Pioneers from wally world will sound better than his stock stereo!
I'd honestly like to put paradigms in my truck, But its not worth it to spend 300 dollars for 2 nice satalights. Then rip them to shreads to put in a truck.
if you buy cheep speakers, you get what you pay for.
as to the base question, when u bolt your new speakers in, be sure to seal any air leaks behind the speaker, you will get much better sound
as for quality speakers, everyone has their own preference, haha. I almost bought those Alpine Type S's.. but instead i bought the JL's. Alpines were alot crisper, but i'm never buying 3 way speakers again. I can't balance the sound out as well. I'm goin 2 way, or maybe 1 way in the future. I can't complain about my JL's though, those things are sooo fricken loud @ just 75 watts... i can't believe it. Plus they have a lot of bass for a lil speaker, i was quite impressed. Balances my bass range out alot.
I will agree with you, I do like JL's. They do make some great speakers and do have some lower end as well as higher end speakers! I was just trying to think of some lower end speakers that he could just run off the HU, and most component sets need a fair amount of power to really be able to crank. As far as the paradigm, that's one brand I've heard good things of, just haven't heard personally, so I'll take your word on that, and may even try to buy a set to see.
