Hey im lookin into putting shackles on my 76' or hoping to do so anyways. And i wanna know pros and cons. I've heard you get great articulation but i also hear that the truck can become unstable? True? False? anyways thanks for any info provided

I don't understand your question since your truck already has shackles. Do you mean shackle reversal or flip?

i suppose i mean reverse shackle for about 4.5 inches of lift...the ones at sky-manufacturing, then i figured an add-a-leaf of 1.5" or 2" to make 6 inches total

I did a shackle flip and swapped to f250 leafs. Came out to about 5" of lift with the right bracket in the back.

If you get a chance do a search on this forum for 'shackle flip'. There have been several posts about it and all the info is positive. The one thing I found with consistancy when looking into the shackle flip is that it's recommended to keep your rear shackle at a 45 degree angle, not straight up and down. This gives you a much softer ride. Proeliator has had a lot to say on this in other posts on the offroad forum which you may find interesting.

Ivan mentioned the important point, which was keeping it at a @45 at rest angle rather than straight up or down. To answer your question, no, there isn't any stability problems with shackle flips.

I'm assuming you just bolt or weld them into place...so you could put them at whatever angle you want.

A buddy of mine was running some stuff from Sky and it was pretty high grade, I imagine you'll be happy with it.

yea, ive seen that a lot of ppl are using their products and like em. From what ive read the sky stuff jus bolts right up to your stock holes...i think i may have to drill the holes out to 1/2" thou, no prob. Hopefully it will all work out great.
Also this ones for you pro, since you seem to be a pretty avid off roader(or anyone elses input), how do you think this setup will work, 6inches all round, the shackles in the rear with 1.5" aal or 2" aal(i dont want to use any blocks except for the factory shims) and then the 6" coils in the front. Id like to have a fair amount of articulation, my trucks mainly a show truck that will see a good amount of off roading as long as it poses little threat to the body...id hate to finish the project and then thrash the body. Thanx

ohh yea one more question, the sky-manu. shackle kit says they're for the 3" springs, im not sure what i have since i dont have the frame on my hands as of right now. Its a 76' F100 4x4. Am i gonna have to do any mods to fit the 3" springs if i have the other size(i believe theyre the 2.5" but im not sure). Thanx again

you shdould have 3 inchers in the rear...2.5s came on the rear of highboys, and 2wd trucks...im not sure if trucks had 3 inchers before 73 though

if it was me doing this...and you still have your stock springs....buy the flip kit and install it first, and see how the truck sits, then go from there....you should have a factory 3 inch block in there

my 2 cents. for wut its worth neway

yea i have a 76 and its 4wd..see above. Also i intend to keep the rear springs if theyre still in good shape and see how much lift i need to level oiut with the 6" in the front.
Does anyoen have any experience with Sky-Manufacturing 78-97 Ford Shackle Flip Kit? If so let me know how they turned out
Thanx

One thing about sky-manufacturing kits. They are designed to be bolted right up in place of your current hangers. From the pictures on their site (could be wrong here, but this is how it looks) the shackle is straight up and down when the new hanger is bolted in place of the old one. I believe to acheive your 45 degree angle to maintain a smooth ride you would still have to move the hanger forward and drill new holes (or weld).

This being the case you could also grab a pair of front hangers (for the rear springs) from a truck in a wrecking yard for $20 give or take and use them for the flip. Same situation, you'll need to move them forward a bit to get the right shackle angle but you'll save $100. Just something to keep in mind.
