Hey everyone
My first time posting here. Just sold my 96 SVT Cobra and picked up a new F 250 Super Crew 5.4. and love it, But I need more power! I didn't go with the v10 because of gas mileage and I am not sold on diesels yet. So Any suggestions on intake, exhaust, chips, superchargers, turbochargering etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mike
A Diablo chip and a good cat back will help.
The V-10 really doesn't do much worse at all in the fuel consumption department than the 5.4,especially when loaded down.
Congratulations on your new truck and enjoy it!
I am currently collecting pieces to make my 2002 5.4 F-250 SC a Lightning system. I have the ENTIRE setup from the intake manifold up (injectors, wiring harness,supercharger,...), crank pulley, waterpump, front cover, belts, and electric waterpump. I'm missing the PCM (for now), torque converter, and the intercooling system. I would be willing to part with everything (new baby, graduate school at night, and a very active 3 1/2 year old = no extra time) for the right price. All parts (except waterpump and crank pulley)are brand new 2002 Lightning components.
Not to be a dick(tator) but the "MAN" has asked that all offers for selling/trading be done either with the private messaging system/email or the classifieds and to not use the boards themselves.
The chip is definitely a great start. Intake and exhaust can also be modified. You can also take off the mechanical fan for an electric one. Whipple is working on a supercharger for the V8. They already have one for the V10, I think. Kenne Bell makes a similar charger, but again, I don't know if it's available for the V8. Holley makes the Thunder supercharger, but it's on the expensive side. Vortech makes a package for the V8.
But here's the important thing. If you're going to modify big time, then plan big time. Make sure all the parts you put together work with each other to optimize power. Ex, the stock throttle body is good up to 350 - 400hp. If you modify the throttle body without working on the rest of the intake, correcting air/fuel ratio, and keeping air velocity, then you may end up losing power rather than gaining it.
Then again, if you really want power to play with, then you really should have gotten the V10. I like my 5.4, but it's mostly for work (95%). For my purposes, if I wanted more oomph in the go pedal, I would have taken the mpg hit, and gotten the V10. Either way, more power = more fuel. It just depends on how you get there.
Good luck. Sorry for the babbling.......sleeeepy
Hi all! From what i've seen and read in magazines and the like, if I were going to try to get more power I would just go with the supercharger. I think they are good for about 100 hp from stock. Calculate that HP-$ ratio, and its probably your best investment. Just my .02. See Ya.
