Just did one on my f350 4x4. It is a sealed unit and you have to purchase the assembly complete with abs sensor and all. Local for dealer wanted something like $475 for the part. Baxter auto wanted $414 and Napa wanted $385. Guess who got the business.
Replacement was not bad at all. Remove brake caliper and rotor. Hub is held on by 4 nut on the inside. Turn steering all the way one direction to get 2, then all the way the other to get the other 2. Unplug abs wire. Remove large snap ring and pull out locking hub. then small snap ring on shaft and the whole assembly should come off. My new hub did not come with studs so I had to remove them from the olld and install into the new. Also had to reuse the outer o-ring. Reverse above procedure and your back in business. Take care to put the tin rotor guard on the correct way or you will get to do it all again. Dont ask me why I know about that.
This was on my 2000 crew cab 4x4. I would think it would be very simular for you truck. All standard tools, nothing special.
One micro-calibrated BFH is needed to break the brake rotor loose from the wheel hub assembly. Spray the sucker around the area where the hole in the rotor is with WD-40 and allow it to soak a while. Then, strike the rotor between the lug studs to breaks the rotor loose. Be careful not to damage your rotor contact surface or your lug studs, though. Be mindful of the o-ring that seals the vacuum-operated 4WD deal, if you have it. Also, I believe the book specifies that the rotor should be replaced any time the hub assembly is replaced. That sounds like a way to get more money to me, so use your own judgement on that deal. Maybe one of our "professional experts" can comment.........
