OK now i am ticked off today at my navajo i cleaned out the engagement motor (works fine) front drive shaft is turning but the hubs will not engage at all no power at all to the front end.
the ? is is it normal for auto hubs to go bad after 13 years of age with 110 k miles on them or am i missing somthing here like the spindale( Someone tell me what this is and what it looks like) or if anyone knows what ford manual hubs will fit the explorer or navajo( they are the same) like off of a ranger or something like that bc i heard some using them on a explorer and work fine PLEASE HELP
well i took apart the hubs again but still stuck on why they are not engaging but i think i have narrowed it down to the outside part of the hub the one you pull off. when i get it in the right place were you push in it it spings back out at you well when i push it all the way in like that and hit the inside part of the rotor with a mallet it engages and i can turn it and the driveshaft but when you turn it the oppisite way it it disengages but i loose the spring action were it will pop back out at you and it will not engage. i did this same thing on the explorer i have and the spring action stayed the same and i did not loose the spring action so i am lost has anyone have this happen to them maybe next weekend it will take the outside part of the hub and pop them on my navajo and see if this fixes my problem i hope it does if not i know it is not that i have the hanyes manual coming in in the begining of the week PLEASE HELP
I had a similiar problem with my old 94. It turns out there was too much grease in the hubs and it was preventing the hubs from locking in. AFter removing the excess grease, my hubs worked good. I had found an article online about how to service the auto hubs on the exploreres. Check out this site:
put ur front tires in mud and slow down to so you dont dig in to the ground with it in 4x4 and have your back tires on tar when stoped put it into 4x4 low (foot on brake in nutral) now put it in reverse you should fell the truck whant to pull likecrazy now hit the gas(makeing sure nothing is behind you) you should hear your back tires spinning but your front ones should dig right in and you should see mud flying up and away from the truck in the front snd if not they are not locking this meatod i have used 3 times to make sure the hubs are engageing and 2 out of the times they worked
and i have check that website out i will give that a try and see if that works and i think that is what is going on i hope that fixes it i will keep you updated
I converted to manual some time ago, they're a great way to go.
What you want are the Warn manual hubs (#29071), you might want the nut kit (Spicer 21588XK) as well. You can get these for around 160.00 and about 3.0 hours of your time on a clean re & re.
If you check around, you'll probably find similar info on the parts.
well i finaly got around to cleaning the hubs well let me tell you the drivers side hub was toast bearings falling out and the whole engagment system fell out
is i took the good hub from my explorer and put it in and perfect no problem no bang no nothing hubs are tight and working fine and while i had it a part i repacked the outer wheel bearing while i was thier
