locking hubs-manual or auto?

Searched for an answer but couldn't find one so ill ask yall -sorry if it has already been asked by someone before. In a 95 f-150 would it be better to have manual or auto locking hubs. Is the auto hubs in 95's crap or are they good. if i get a truck with auto should i just replace it with manual? Thanks.

It matters what you are doing with the truck, if they work, and you only use the 4x4 when it gets a little slick in the winter, i would keep the autos on, but if you are serious in going off-raoding, i would switch to warn premiums.

Its all about preference. If there is nothing wrong with the auto's then just keep them. No need to fix whats not broken. Some people like myself who would have a problem once will ditch them for manuals. The thing is that a good set of manual lock outs cost from about $70- $130 and rarely need to be serviced. I know that Warns are pre greased and they do not want you to grease them upon installation. I am not sure how much it costs to replace auto hubs but I think it is pretty absurd but someone may be able to shed a little light onto that subject.

The manual hubs are more durable and probably a good idea if you do a lot of 4wd'ing or offroad. The autos are not as durable for serious use, but if you maintain them, I would stick with them until they fail.

Hubs need to be LIGHTLY regreased every 50K miles or so(at least on my manual hubs), when you check the wheel bearings, spindles etc.

Good Luck,
