Ok, so I made a long trip (500+ miles) and noticed spray on my back windshield. Upon further investigation I found that it was transmission fluid coming through the vent. I took it to my transmission guy and he felt that the seals between the transfer case and the transmission might be bad so he replaced them... Well I did some more highway driving after he replaced the seals and didn't notice any spray. So I made my trip back today and I noticed more spray near the end of the trip... Is there any reason why this happens? Should I be worried? It's not a ton of spray just enough to catch dirt...
As you drive longer, the tranny heats up and tranny fluid can boil. It is very possible that this happened and just overflowed thru the vent tube or fill tube, or built up enough pressure and leaked from the linkage seal. If you are going to continue doing the long distance driving, I would suggest a tranny cooler. I had a similar prob until I put in a cooler and now I have even puplled trailers that were legally, too big for me to be pulling and haven't had a single prob. I would also make sure that all the tranny pan bolts are tigtened to the right torque specs. I had a couple loosen up on me so I re-torqued all of em with a little thread lock.
The tranny cooler is a great suggestion! If your fluid is getting hot and spurting out, check the dipstick and see if it smells "burnt". Your tranny will not last long if it's getting that hot.
hmmm... It doesn't smell or look burnt. When I first took it home and noticed this problem my transmission guy said that it wasn't burnt but a quart low.
However, I am taking a look at transmission coolers because from what I am reading they help extend the life of the tranny (which mine is brand new, so I want to extend that life as long as possible )
Any suggestions on a good tranny cooler and how hard are they to install?

He charged me $90... However, he took a look at the differential as well. Looking at the bill the cost for the seals was right at $65 (with installation).
Kilted, u can do this your self with a tranny jack .It was no problems at all dropping the transfer case and since i had it down i replaced all seals, air tools help for this All total seals 35$. I too had the spray on my trailer with a quart low- cept i do have a tranny cooler. TR
