Hard Starting

My parent's 1993 F-150 with a 351 and an auto-trans is having a hard time starting. When you turn it over it will run for less than a second then die out. At first all you had to do was turn it over one more time and it would run fine with just a slight surging. But now it takes four or five times before it will run properly. Not too long ago we had the fuel pump, O2 sensor, and cat replaced. The injectors were cleaned about a year ago. Any ideas before we take it into the shop?

Try replacing the spark plugs (probably some are fouled out) and make sure you gap it properly to the right specs.

That fix sounds a little bit too easy. My luck usually dictates problems to be worse than that. Thank you though. First thing tomorrow those plugs are being replaced. (Needs a smog check anyway) Anything else?

If you have someone replace the spark plugs, please have them use a compress air around the sparkplugs before removing the old spark plugs.

The reason for using a compress air around the sparkplugs is that you want to get rid of any water, oil that would cause misfire. You don't want debris going into the engine when you replace the spark plugs.
