Got a question about older diesel pickups. Since Ford didn't start with their diesel until 83', and I've seen diesels in older pickups, was another brand engine used by ford. I don't know much about the diesels, but I've heard they used international engines. I like the '78, '79 body style and would like to get diesel f-250 of that style.
Thanks for any info.
Thats all ford has used is the International Navistars. 6.9 to start the 7.3 IDI Then 7.3 Di Powerstroke ans now The 6.0 Powerstroke. They never Put a diesel in a 78 or 79. You can put a 6.9 or a 7.3 IDI in pretty easy. I used a 5.9 Cummins in my 79.
Big Bully...Did you buy a rebuilit Cummins, rebuild one yourself or swap one in that was in good shape? How did the swap go? Engine mounts, bell housing, etc. How long have you been running it and what's your mpg? Anybody else out there who swapped the Cummins into their 250's? I know Ford's new 6.0 has gotten a lot of great press....but would you agree that the 5.9 Cummins was better than Ford's older diesels? That's what a lot of the reviews/mags seem to suggest. Anybody got an opinion on that?

you might want to post that in the Ford versus the competition forum, we tend to call that "thread hijacking" you are new so this is just a little warning, its only because when people get to searching they get into a lot of BS.
