Clearence lights

I'm considering putting some clearence lights, like those on the 3\4 and 1 tons, on my bronco. It should be somewhat simple, but I have never done it before. I'm not to familar with electircal work other than the basics of stereo installion. If anyone has done this any advice would be appriciated, as to the routing of the wire, fitting it up the molding and such, and switch. Also, anyone have any leaking problems?
Thanks

Well, I have always thought about doing the same, but to my 83. You will have to drill holes in the roof. You can run the wires through the inner panel of the roof and down the A-piller to a dash switch, just make sure you use a fuse that can handle the amps. I would think a 20A in line fuse would be plenty.

I just read something recommending to just splice into the parking light wire, that seems like a good idea. How do I tell which one is positive?

What year is your bronco, cause the 80 models had a little bug about running too much off that 1 circuit, and they would burn the terminal off the headlight switch. But, that can be done, maybe it would be best to use a relay for the lights.

It's a 96'. Maybe running straight to the battery with a switch would be easiest. I don't know how I'm gonna find that wire anyway.

You can just unplug the plug off the headlight switch and find the wire that runs the parking lights. Then tap into those, then when you turn your park lamps on and also when you have your headlights on you don't have to worry about the clearencs lamps.

Do NOT plug into the side marker lights! I thought that would be a great idea, but its alot of work to get your big hands down within reach to finally get the wire nut on and then blow the fuse 10 minutes later! That satisfaction did not last long. Replaced the fuse and it overloaded again, so save yourself some troble and don't tap into your forward parking light.

just wire it up through a relay on the parking lights, you coul just use it as the switch and not even bother with a "real" one that you could potentually leave on

you could use a relay(fused) to trigger the extra lights off the parking lights
or...
replace the hi-draw(amp) hot conventinal lightbulbs with led arrays(or just bulb replacements that plug into the original sockets) lower draw / amperage and brighter and cooler running..but i woul replace all of them (markers too)
ps those melted lenses look worse than no lights

huh guess i have a new project but i will solder my own up
lets see will need goodies yah

if you want to do things the easy way just leave me the heII out of it

They also sell visors that go over the windshield (on top) and they have built in clearance lights. They come woth directions, wires, switches, fuses......the whole nine yards. The best part is the kit is like only $185.00!!

I;ve seen them on E-bay and Truckperformance.com etc...

Hope this helps!!

I have actally put clearence lights on a truck before. I had an 85 F-150, it was my first truck, and I put them on. The 2 hardest things were making sure they would be staright and fishing the wires through the roof. I used masking tape and kite string to get all the lines right on the roof to make sure the lights would be straight and even. Fishing the wires through the roof was a project in itself, it took me a good 3 hours just to run the wires. I ran them through the roof and down the a pillar. I put them on a seperate circuit because I didn't feel like digging behind the dash to splice into the headlights. when I was done it was worth every minute of work. I ended up setting them up so the 3 in the middle were closer together, and the ones on the left and right were spaced a little farther(hope that makes sence), I liked that look rather than five evenly spaced ones. This summer I am gonna put them on my Bronco.

oh yeah, as for leaking problems. I bought black silicone and loaded up the holes REAL good and around the outside of the light before pressing them down and screwing them down. Also, be careful when you tighten down the screws, the roof is not that thick and the metal will start to pull up and the screw will get loose, i just made mine snug. I had the truck for 2 1/2 years and never had one drop of water in the cab.
