[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Oct-02 AT 00:40 AM (EST)]My OE Steeltex Firestones have 26,000 miles...Have been rotated by myself at about 6,000 miles (5 tire rotation)...and have presented no problems. Tread looks okay...Works well in Kansas snow/sleet/ice/rain with 350lbs of sand bags near the tailgate. But I ain't no performance driver or jack rabbit starter...= my .02 cents. You can bury that LS rear end with these tires in mud pretty easy, however. P.S Those Michelin at a comparable $164 versus $116 for Firestone ought to get one something better.
I'd suggest you check your facts before you question mine. The only possible scenario is if you are running a 35X12.5-16.5" tire/rim combination. In which case you would be running a tire/rim combo that is not comparable, and is the exception, not the rule.
The ratings below DO apply to rim diameters 16" and under.
Load Range E = 80psi
Load Range D = 65psi
Load Range C = 50psi
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Oct-02 AT 09:53 PM (EST)]Waxy,
I'm going by what is on the side of my tires. They are load range D and have a maximum PSI of 50. Come check my tires if you want, but I'm not making this up. Your broad sweeping statement doesn't apply to all tires and rims. I'm not trying to start a flame war, but my tires are BFGoodrich so your statement should apply to them.
Here is the appropriate link for my 35/12.50R16.5 load range D tires (max pressure 50 PSI) which confirms my information that is printed on my tires.
Just a thought my 4X4 PSD was not as hard on my V10 2X4. The thing to remember is the 2X4 still uses the twin I beam front suspendion and they are notorious for eating the outside edge of the front tires so rotating the is critical for tire life. I have them rotated front to back the pulled off the rim and turned around.
Just a thought here... Ever wonder who "invented" tire rotation? Tire companies.. because they care about us and want us to have the most tread life? NOT .. because most vehicles will wear out either the front or the backs faster .. and by rotating the tires you will wear out all 4 faster.. .. maybe they reccomend tire rotation to sell more tires?? my .02 LOL
The tires last longer rotating them. Of course the rear tires don't wear as fast and by rotating them they are "wearing faster", but the front tires are wearing slower when you rotate them. I would rather have even wear and replace 4 tires at a time than have uneven wear and replace 2 tires at a time. Just an opinion.

I'll continue the flame war for one more post . If you would have read my post, you would have seen that I did, in fact, figure out what tire you were running and mention that it was the exception to the rule. I then clarified the rule, it's not a "broad sweeping statement", it's a fact.
OK, now let's get on to something more constructive.
I'm sorry that I didn't fully read your post. You did provide clarification, but my initial response was to clarify that not all load range D tires are 65PSI. Thank you for the clarification of your information.
(All Michelin tires below are Radial )
Michelin 900r16 XL Load Range E rating (5766lbs at 50psi)This is an excellent tire for towing as for
off-road...(Bill at Bill's Tires Pacheco, CA, 925.689.2678)
Michelin 900r16 XZL This tire doesn't howl excessively on the highway, and wears slower than the XL above, , Load Range D rating 5290lbs at 50psi).Tires above are excellent for wet surface...
I now am using the Denman Tire 9.00-16lt 35"OD military, tube, max 3330@60psi ,there great for pulling(towing 6500lb boat) as for off-road...Only when the tire is cold there traction isn't the greatest and it howls excessively on the highway too, other then that its a superb tire...
