I don't think it really matters since the hole is in a recess of the lifter. I have taken motors apart and seen them facing up and down in the same motor. I have never found any information if they are suppposed to be installed in a certain direction.

got it running didnt solve my problem
valve isnt closing
thought lifter was sticking full
94 351w
valves ok have compresson with rocker arms
loose
could it be valve springs week and not working the lefters
properly?
has any body heard of this?
