I recently got a brand new cd headunit for my pickup, i installed it in there for about 2 weeks and it worked flawlessly... I removed it from the truck and installed it into my lincoln...now i get no sound what so ever... i ran my own wires, not using any of the factory harness, so i know the connections are good.
But oddly enough, i get alternator whine through the speakers when the music will not play through them.
i've been told i might have blown the channels in the radio, but i don't see how this could be possible with it still putting out alternator whine through the speakers..
Any of you audio gurus gimme a shot here, i need to know if it needs to be returned or not.
By any chance are any of the connections shorting to ground? Other than that I can't find any good reason for it to do that other than a dead stereo...
what year lincoln? it is possible for the channels to have grounded out and shorted the internal amp out. alt. whine could still be picked up. sounds like u have a connection problem somewhere.
79 Lincoln, and no, there isn't any way for the channels to have grounded out, i used crimp connectors to connect all thewires to eliminate that possibility.
Though i do think, while i was still wiring everything something may have touched and did indeed ground out, blowing the channels, as i've tried 3 different sets of speakers, and everything and they'll make a little static noise when you connect the wires, but other than that...they don't even play.
I'm thinking about just finding an 80's vintage ford casette deck and installing a cd changer in the trunk and just living with a factory radio in the dash.
