I have been trying to configure a 2003 F250 or F350, extended cab or crew cab with a diesel engine and a Plow package. It seems to me that they do not offer a plow package with the diesel engines. Is this true? I mean if Dodge offers their 3500 crew cab with a diesel and plow package, why doesn't Ford? Am I reading it wrong or is this just the way it is...
Anyone with different information, please enlighten me. Thanx...
Last few years your truck has to be regular cab or extended cab/Long Bed to get plow package with Powerstroke. I don't think it can be a Lariat either.
Aaron.
I seem to recall hearing the same thing when i bought my truck becouse i was concidering the diesel.Something to do with the weight.I have the v-10 club cab with a 8ft fisher plow and the combo works great.
When I bought my 99' F-350 seems to me they could'nt find my cab and truck configuration on the Fisher plow truck list,,. It's a F-350, supercab, DRW, 9' dump body, with a PSD, it seems that there thinking your gonna go plowing with 6 guys in the truck,,can you imagine the,, ,going on,,he,,he,, anyway the Fisher dealer still installed a 9' minute mount, for me,,he just said dont come back to me if ya cant stop it,, .
The truck handles it fine,,only seems to drop like 1 inch when the plow is lifted, This will be the 4th winter with it,and it has done very well, no problems stopping either.
Hope this helps,, By the way I did know the owner of the Fisher Dealer , bought stuff from him before, .
the above post is correct as for why crew cabs and diesels can not get the plow pkg. weight and front gawr (gross axle weight ratio).
The ball joints and springs won't last very long ! if your looking for longevity. with diesel it puts you close to the front gawr ,then add the plow
Depending on how much you plow and what you carry, the other point is the brakes and rotors.
To my understanding, the plow prep package puts the heaviest springs available on the front, but when you have the extended/crew cab and the deisel, you already have the springs to compensate for the added weight of the truck. So the plow prep package would be moot at that point. I don't know if Ford discourages the use of plows on those trucks, but I would put on after market rotors and pads to make sure you have the stopping power.
