Does anyone know where I can get a lower hinge pin for the driver side vent window on my 65 F100 4X4? While replacing the rubber I discovered mine is practically rusted off and haven't been able to find any in the aftermarket catalogs.
I haven't found any repacements either. I am currently working on fabricating one and if I am successful, I plan on posting the results here so others can make on as well.
I'm not sure if they will work, but br0nc0graveyard does have replacement pins. I've ordered a couple and will post how it goes in sizing and if they fit, replacement.
Well, I got ambitious and rebuilt the ones I had. It worked great and was alot easier than I thought. The pins on both of mine were in good shape but the flat leg of the hinge that mounted to the frame was rusted through. I had some scrap 1/8" stainless steel at work. I used a plasma cutter to cut a 3/8" by a 1 3/4" piece for each hinge. I then drilled a 1/4" hole near one end of each piece. I took the old pins to the bench grinder and carefully ground the very end of the pin down to fit snug into the 1/4" hole. I squared it up nice and using a 110 wire feed, welded the pin into the hole on the backside of the plate being careful to keep from overheating the pieces. Then came the fine tuning. I ground the weld down flush and ground the edges of the plate down to where it just fit into the channel. Since the pin feeds into the frame from the bottom, I had to grind just enough of the heel end of the "shoe" so that it would roll into place. This "heel" is not on the original but I thought it would help to strengthen the welded connection. Once I had the fit where I liked it I centered the pin in the hole and clamped it, drilled an 1/8" hole through each rivot opening and rivoted them into place with 1/8" stainless rivots. The entire process took about an hour to make both of them and I think they are every bit as strong as what came on the truck when it was new. Don't throw them old pins away!
