Winter project part 2 is in need of a heart transplant. It has a locked up 360 now and there is a rebuilt 390 sitting in the garage ready to go in. My questions:
1. Is the clutch, flywheel, Pressure plate the same between a np435 4x4 and a t18 2x4. The truck is a 2x4 and the engine came from a 4x4. Do I need to change the clutch, flywheel, pp to the one for a t18 or will the np435s junk work right. I ask this because the parts on the 390 are relatively new and I don't have pockets full of money.
2. Is there anything else I need to change or look out for?
The 360 is getting yanked out probobly on monday and I'd like to get the 390 in there soon after so I remember how it all went together. (First time engine swapper here)
I'm planning on removing the doghouse to do this to make my life that much easier. I have a sliding hoist on an I-beam I'll be using.
I had my 360 rebuilt last year and we reinstalled the engine. One good word of advice, make sure every set of bolts that come off go in a labeled ziplock bag. Even though yours will probably take far less time then mine did, complications always arise and something you thought might take a week takes 3 or 4 weeks. Nothing is worse than having a catastrophic failure due to the wrong grade or size of bolt. Let's just say I am speaking from experience. For instance - put the carb bolts in a bag, put the distributor bracket and bolt in another, put the engine mounting bolts in another. Make sure it's all labeled! So it's a few bucks you spend on a box of ziplocks, you'll be greatful later on. Just make sure you get the ones you can write on as well. Good luck with the swap!
The engine I'm dropping in was pulled out of another truck I bought just for the fresh rebuilt engine. His loss, my gain. Everything is complete and attached so that is a major advantage. I shouldn't have too many bolts to deal with. Just mounts and bolts connecting the tranny and engine. That is a great idea though, I'd hate to get everything together and break something due to not taking a few minutes to mark something down. More ideas, comments, anything welcome.
There might be a difference between the 4x2 and 4x4 but the engines are the same. As long as you keep all of the parts from one set-up togeather it should be fine. Take everything from the crank back and keep it as a set.
